SUMMARY:Simple Joys
DESCRIPTION:After nearly eighteen months of COVID-19 halting meetings\, birthday parties\, and musical events\, the ORYC was pleased to present a small concert to celebrate the end of our extended 2020-2021 season which proved no easy feat. Attendees were restricted to two per chorister\, seating grouped by social bubble was mandatory. Masks were required at all times by everyone (including choristers) in the event space\, and everyone in attendance had to fill out our COVID screening questionnaire. As such to keep capacity low\, the event was not publicly advertised.\nAs our traditional season end event\, awards were given out\, and hard-working volunteer staff recognized; most notably Stephanie Cavanagh and Anne MacKinnon\, our volunteer management team for the past year and a half who helped spearhead operations through the pandemic.\nAlthough not a packed performance\, we were certainly thrilled to see masks and smiling eyes looking back at us. \nPROGRAM\nZadok the Priest                        G. F. Handel\n* Awards and Recognition *\nSelections from “Requiem”    W. A. Mozart

SUMMARY:NAC - Pinnock's Matthew Passion
DESCRIPTION:NAC – Pinnock’s Matthew Passion\nMembers of the ORYC are so thrilled to be a part of this upcoming performance at the NAC. Would love to have you there for support! \nAdditional information and tickets are available through the NAC page at https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/18709 \n************************************************************************\nJ.S. Bach The Passion According to St. Matthew\, BWV 244 \nThe NAC Orchestra is thrilled to welcome back to the podium former NAC Orchestra music director (1991–1997) Trevor Pinnock. \nThe St. Matthew Passion\, J.S. Bach’s grandest musical work\, follows the last days of Jesus’s life – through betrayal\, arrest\, and crucifixion. Comprising three choirs and two orchestras that perform together and separately throughout\, the St. Matthew Passion is a masterpiece of both drama and subtlety. Questioning\, responding\, and “speaking” to one another\, the choirs\, orchestras\, and soloists act as participants and observers\, representing the voices of humanity. The narrative moves between characters – including Judas\, Jesus\, Pilate\, and Pilate’s wife – creating a beautiful meditation on faith\, courage\, and hope. \nTrevor Pinnock is revered worldwide as a harpsichordist and expert in baroque and early classical music. His celebrated direction of the magnificent St. Matthew Passion has earned him kudos around the globe for creating “a vibrant and disturbing drama\, articulating the profound ambiguities at the heart of the work’s theology (The Guardian).

SUMMARY:Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna - Ticketed Event
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Mother’s Day 2018 with the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir’s performance highlighting Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna \nORYC is proud to present this exciting and reflective work by American composer\, Morten Lauridsen\, in honour of his mother and fitting for this Mother’s Day concert. The concert will feature Organist\, Shawn Potter. \n“…Lauridsen composed the requiem Lux Aeterna in 1997\, the year his mother died. She was the “muse” who introduced him to music\, playing swing jazz and singing to him as a toddler. She also taught him to play the piano. The consolation for grief offered by Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna is often compared to that of Fauré’s Requiem and Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem\, both works inspired by the deaths of the composers’ mothers. These works also have in common a deceptive simplicity\, yet their capacity to touch the listener reveals mastery at expressing through music the depth of human emotion.” – Carol Talbeck \n_____________________________________________ \nTicket Prices: \n“Friend of the Choir” Tickets: $50 (includes reserved seating and a $25 tax receipt) \nGeneral Admission Tickets: At the Door $30 \nSenior/Student Tickets: At the Door $20 \nChildren ages 12 and under are free
