SUMMARY:ORYC Holiday Release 2020 - Musica Festum
DESCRIPTION:Join the ORYC digitally for a festive display of carols\, songs\, and good cheer. This year\, we feature our choristers split in two groups\, as well as mass choir pieces\, while we sing holiday tunes from varying languages and cultures. \nWe are able to release earlier than expected! Thanks to Liam and Aidan at Orange Crow Productions for the speedy turn-around. Tune in for our premier at 7PM on December 24\, or any time after. \nThe ORYC’s Musica Festum will premier here and on our YouTube channel tonight at 7pm. \n\nSupporting our efforts in Musica Festum\nHaving a choir meet in person mid-pandemic this fall has been no easy feat! Thankfully\, we can do so with increased cleaning\, PPE\, staggered rehearsal times\, and distancing in our cooperative rehearsal space\, St. Joseph’s Parish. All of these changes are necessary to keep everyone healthy\, happy\, and safe while complying with changing rules and regulations; and can have a price tag involved. Some expenses we have seen are budgets for masks\, sanitizer and HEPA filters as well as increased compensation for our staff to split the choir into groups\, but provide them adequate rehearsal time. \nIf you are able\, please support the ORYC in lieu of a concert ticket to our opener for the 2020-2021 season via our donation page. All donations over $25 will receive a charitable tax receipt\, as we are a registered charity (# 11907 1827 RR0001). Thank you!

SUMMARY:Simple Joys
DESCRIPTION:After nearly eighteen months of COVID-19 halting meetings\, birthday parties\, and musical events\, the ORYC was pleased to present a small concert to celebrate the end of our extended 2020-2021 season which proved no easy feat. Attendees were restricted to two per chorister\, seating grouped by social bubble was mandatory. Masks were required at all times by everyone (including choristers) in the event space\, and everyone in attendance had to fill out our COVID screening questionnaire. As such to keep capacity low\, the event was not publicly advertised.\nAs our traditional season end event\, awards were given out\, and hard-working volunteer staff recognized; most notably Stephanie Cavanagh and Anne MacKinnon\, our volunteer management team for the past year and a half who helped spearhead operations through the pandemic.\nAlthough not a packed performance\, we were certainly thrilled to see masks and smiling eyes looking back at us. \nPROGRAM\nZadok the Priest                        G. SUMMARY:Creation
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, May 5 at 3:00pm\, the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir will present their last concert of the 2023-24 season!\n\nAccompanied by a professional orchestra\, they will bring to life two major choral works: The Creation and Inferno. Joseph Haydn’s oratorio The Creation depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as an idyllic paradise for humanity and the abundant species of our planet. The juxtaposing work\, composed by members of the ORYC Madox Terrell\, Matthew Menard & Justin Willette\, is known as Inferno. This setting of Rev. H. F. Cary’s English translation of Dante Alighieri’s epic poem will be the premier of the composition including an original text contribution by Maria Sara Florez-Gonzalez and selected poetry by Eliot Generoux\, both members of the ORYC respectfully. The piece is a critical commentary highlighting present-day environmental concerns\, putting humans in danger of destroying our paradise. The overarching message is that all is not lost should we work together as a society\, and meaningfully address climate change and the destruction of nature due to human activity.\n\nTickets are $30; pay what you can available at the door.\n\nWe eagerly look forward to seeing you at St. Joseph’s Parish (174 Wilbrod St.) that afternoon – all are welcome! Parking at the church will be free\, and tickets will also be available at the door\, which will open around 2:30pm. Thank you for your support of the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir!
