Mother’s Day and Wonderful Music – Celebrate with us…

Celebrate Mother’s Day 2018 with the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir’s performance highlighting Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna

ORYC is proud to present this exciting and reflective work by American composer, Morten Lauridsen, in honour of his mother and fitting for this Mother’s Day concert. The concert will feature Organist, Shawn Potter.

“…Lauridsen composed the requiem Lux Aeterna in 1997, the year his mother died. She was the “muse” who introduced him to music, playing swing jazz and singing to him as a toddler. She also taught him to play the piano. The consolation for grief offered by Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna is often compared to that of Fauré’s Requiem and Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem, both works inspired by the deaths of the composers’ mothers. These works also have in common a deceptive simplicity, yet their capacity to touch the listener reveals mastery at expressing through music the depth of human emotion.” – Carol Talbeck

The “Cycle of Song”

The “Cycle of Song”

Well everyone, although our Mother’s Day Concert is our last “official” offering for our 2015-2016 Season our work is not yet done and while we rehearse and share for those last guest performances…we also start the “cycle” for the new 2016-2017 Season.

Life with a choir reminds me of the caterpillar/butterfly life cycle each and every season.  Some might even say there is a similarity to the “Butterfly Effect” in the Chaos Theory.  It can often feel that way when you are in the middle of things.

Through whichever way we choose to look at it, life in a choir fits both scenarios.  Each individual has the potential to influence the overall whole of the choir and the organization.  As young people go through the evolution – sometimes seems like a revolution – from caterpillar, chrysalis to adult, the appropriate environment, challenges and influences are key.  For the ORYC the voice and the person must be nurtured in order to flourish and reach for their potential. The ORYC certainly recognizes the challenges as we have had many of our own.

Help us evolve and grow to our potential!  We are currently auditioning new young men and women to sing and grow with us. Each individual influences every outcome for the choir.  The tone, the pitch, the emotion …the musicality of the whole. Up for the challenge?

Be a part of something amazing, creative and growing…part of the “Cycle of Song” for the 2016-2017 Season.  Auditions are currently being scheduled for June 5th and June 9th, 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
