Creation

May 5 @ 3:00 PM - 5:15 PM

On Sunday, May 5 at 3:00pm, the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir will present their last concert of the 2023-24 season!
Accompanied by a professional orchestra, they will bring to life two major choral works: The Creation and Inferno. Joseph Haydn’s oratorio The Creation depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as an idyllic paradise for humanity and the abundant species of our planet. The juxtaposing work, composed by members of the ORYC Madox Terrell, Matthew Menard & Justin Willette, is known as Inferno. This setting of Rev. H. F. Cary’s English translation of Dante Alighieri’s epic poem will be the premier of the composition including an original text contribution by Maria Sara Florez-Gonzalez and selected poetry by Eliot Generoux, both members of the ORYC respectfully. The piece is a critical commentary highlighting present-day environmental concerns, putting humans in danger of destroying our paradise. The overarching message is that all is not lost should we work together as a society, and meaningfully address climate change and the destruction of nature due to human activity.

Tickets are $30; pay what you can available at the door.

We eagerly look forward to seeing you at St. Joseph’s Parish (174 Wilbrod St.) that afternoon – all are welcome! Parking at the church will be free, and tickets will also be available at the door, which will open around 2:30pm. Thank you for your support of the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir!
